After leaving year 12 in Brisbane I took on and completed an apprenticeship as a Panel Beater/Spray Painter, but soon realised I
did not want to stay in that industry for long and started with Bullivants in 1982 as a junior Wire Rope Splicer. It seemed like an interesting industry and I learnt a lot over the next several years including all facets of production, press operations making wire rope slings, chain slings, socketing, and also the testing and onsite lifting gear inspection processes. I then moved onto field service work which included installation of wire ropes on chair lifts, mine sites, and cranes, before moving into a variety of sales roles both internal and externally.
I just loved talking to people and helping them solve problems with their lifting, rigging, or recovery situations.
As National Training Manager now I have the opportunity to give back to the business and to the new people as they come in and grow. We deliver training courses in Safe Use of Lifting Equipment, Working at Heights Awareness, Safe use of Overhead Cranes, Load restraint and Recovery of Mobile Equipment as well as internal courses on our technical processes.
One of the good things about Bullivants is we are such a diverse company with the goods and services we offer and the variety of markets we service. It’s always fresh and even though people say “same company for that long!”, I always tell them, “I love getting out of bed and coming to work”, whether it’s helping train sales people or technical staff or training end users anywhere across Australia, it’s very satisfying to know you shared a skill or maybe saved a life or prevented an accident
from occurring.
My aim is to help people at all levels in Bullivants to build careers and customers to stay with us as a preferred supplier.
I really enjoy my job. |
