Rowena Adams

Technical Services Administrator - Newcastle

“The Newcastle team are a great bunch of people to
work with and I really enjoy helping my customers”.

Bullivants - Rowena Adams

When I moved back to Newcastle from interstate I went on to complete a Cert III in Business Administration and worked part time at
Coles Supermarket. This wasn’t really an area that I saw a long term future in so started to look for a role which would allow me to use my administration knowledge and skills.

I noticed that an administration role was advertised within Bullivants and thought I would apply. I was already familiar with the
company and knew that they were long established in the Newcastle area. During the interview I got a real understanding of the size of the company and its national network and really did want to work for them. Well the interview must have gone ok because I was offered the job and started with the business in December 2006, which, coincidentally, is the same month that they became a part of the Wesfarmers group.

In the beginning I was first point of contact for customers at the branch either by phone or through the sales counter.
This was great fun and I got to meet so many different people and I found it really rewarding to be able to help them and direct them to our relevant technical people to provide the solutions they were looking for. I was responsible for all of the day to day paperwork which made sure orders were getting shipped, suppliers were getting paid and the Newcastle ship was running smoothly.

I have recently changed roles to become the Technical Services Administrator. This involves a lot of coordination with our own onsite technical people and liaison with customers to ensure we are keeping them compliant to standards and their workforce safe. It gives me
a challenge each day and allows me to constantly improve my knowledge of not only the Bullivants business but also our customer operations.

I really enjoy coming to work each day. The Newcastle team are a great bunch of people to work with and I really enjoy helping my customers. We quite often come up against “I needed it yesterday” scenarios and it’s great to be able to provide an urgent solution to keep a customer’s operation on track.

I have already seen firsthand how inter branch relations work when I was called upon to spend a week in Geelong assisting the new team set up their business systems. This was a great opportunity and it was really good to be asked to help elsewhere in the business. I see myself working at Bullivants for a long time to come and the exciting thing is being a part of the Wesfarmers Group I see genuine opportunity to constantly improve and challenge myself, both as a person and in my career.
